Typhoon “Doksuri” made landfall in the north of the Philippines with heavy rain and powerful winds. The weather service in the Southeast Asian island nation spoke of a “violent, life-threatening” storm. The national disaster management agency said today that one resident was killed in flash flooding, and more than 11,000 people were displaced.

The tropical storm, named “Egay” in the Philippines, reached Fuga Island in the northern province of Cagayan early this morning with gusts of up to 240 kilometres per hour. Large parts of the region were without power, and many trees were also toppled and houses damaged, said Edgardo Posadas, a spokesman for the disaster management agency.

Weakened toward Taiwan and China
Dozens of domestic flights were cancelled. According to the Coast Guard, shipping was also suspended – thousands of people are stranded in ports. According to the calculations, “Doksuri,” which at times had been classified as a super typhoon, is expected to leave the Philippines in a slightly weakened form and then move towards Taiwan and China.

The Philippines is hit by an average of about 20 typhoons every year. The terrible storm “Haiyan” claimed the lives of more than 6300 people in November 2013. At the end of 2021, typhoon “Rai” caused severe devastation, killing more than 400 people.
